On Global Recycling Day, March 18, 2024, PJRFSI calls on the food industry to celebrate and amplify its recycling efforts. The theme #RecyclingHeroes, championed by the Global Recycling Foundation, resonates deeply within the food sector, where sustainability and resource management are increasingly crucial.
The challenges of climate change and resource depletion are acutely felt in the food industry. The last decade’s record temperatures and environmental degradation threaten food security, natural habitats, and the livelihoods dependant on this sector. Recycling and sustainable practises within the food industry are not just environmental imperatives but essential strategies for ensuring long-term viability and reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
The concept of the ‘Seventh Resource’ recyclables plays a significant role in the food industry. By embracing recycling, food businesses can conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and significantly lower CO2 emissions. This approach aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 2030, demonstrating the industry’s pivotal role in the global green agenda. This year, Global Recycling Day is also sponsored by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, ISRI.
PJRFSI supports the mission of Global Recycling Day by urging the food industry to prioritise recycling and sustainable practises. We encourage businesses to see waste as a valuable resource that, when properly managed, can contribute to an environmentally stable and prosperous future. Through certification and compliance with global standards, we assist food businesses in becoming leaders in sustainability, driving positive change across the industry.
Let’s join hands this Global Recycling Day to acknowledge our #RecyclingHeroes and commit to a sustainable future, for the food industry and our planet. For more information, reach out to PJRFSI today at [email protected].
